How women can support each other more in fashion and beyond

March is here already and we are almost through with the first quarter of 2018. As I reflect on how fast the year has gone, I feel excited to begin this month. I feel as if this month will be the month of major moves and how can it not be? After all, it is Women’s History Month.
March is another excuse for black women to rise up and do what we do best, GET SH*T DONE! Even though I haven’t posted in a while, I’ve been constantly creating and finding ways to empower women in a real way. One major way I want to do this is to continue to work with creatives who are women and have some exciting projects with many talented women coming soon. While I’m not downplaying the power of male creatives (hello, Jordan Peele, Ryan Coogler), I feel as if there’s always been a disconnect between women with similar goals working together. Though we are seeing it more and more in TV and movies, many black women in the workplace and beyond still feel the need to compete.
As a blogger, I have dealt with many influencers who have liked my content and have eventually unfollowed me as my platform has grown. While I do empathize with them, I do want to get to a place where women in a particular field aren’t intimidated or even worried about what the next woman is doing. Instead, I would like us all to work together and create our own lanes. In the blogging world, for example, we need to have more groups and platforms like YouBelongNow to promote inclusion within the industry. I would much rather we work together to find our own voices than to be so stubborn that we allow corporations to marginalize us. Women, black women specifically, have so much more power in us than we know. I am sure this month we will not only create amazing things but also create them together.
